Southend-aftermatch discussionAnyone going? Wish I'd have applied now, didn't have money at the time ;( Saturday's going to be boring/stress free (if we win at least). I suppose I can worry about my fantasy team ;/ How'd we all fancy our chances then? Bit nervous about it to be honest, if we slip up let's hope Charlton do too. But here's to 9 wins on the trot!

just a quick warning for those driving down on Friday night...
I am a Leeds fan living in Southend and i should warn you of the average speed cameras that are in place on the A127 from Basildon into Southend, these cameras are active and are set to 50mph so don't exceed that limit. You will notice theses cameras as great big yellow pylons that are place in the middle of the dual carriageway each with about 6 cameras on them.

Expecting a tough/difficult game, would imagine Rui and Kisnorbo will be back for this, and Hopefully Beckford.........

to my mind the first real test of the season. Tough place to go made tougher by it once again being on a friday night - absolute nonsense! These are the games that have to be won in order to get auto promotion.

Only decided last week I wanted to go, last week tickets were still available, when I went to apply at the end of last week it had sold out.
Hopefully we'll be top of the league for the duration of the weekend.

Tough test on a ground we seem to get nothing from.......but we could have said the same about Wallsall and Colchester and we got 6 points there,......maybe the corner is turned, this is a different Leeds side these days....will be a tough test and I will be happy with a point, delighted with 3 but a point away from home on a Friday night would be good.
3 points and the pressure is on Charlton....bring it on, cant wait!

Grayson saying he's only hopeful beckford will be fit makes it sound like he wont be risked yet...

Kisnorbo scored for Australia against South Korea, good header too I watched it Live, - I like the look of him! - Hoping to wake up in the morning with us top of the league!

Keep us updated mate - RE games and we'll have a meet up.
Back on topic - I believe no Beckford tonight, reckon we'll have enough to turn them over away? Who's going to play at the back? Rui/Bromby and Paddy at the back...

What a difference a year makes,we,re so much stronger now in heart of defence, our main 4 centrehalfs imo could all do a good job in CCC,Bromby is versatile,so will be imo a handy signing..

This is a difficult game. We certainly good enough to win but our record at sarfend is appaling. A little bit worried about this one

As said earlier on text to you Si,More concerned at this stage with pack below 2nd spot and us getting a healthy points cushion,i would expect Huddersfield to win today, and expect Charlton too also....

agree with comments about the ref, he gave them a penalty he had no hesitation in giving it,no complaints about it, as it was a foul, but 5 mins later the same thing blatant foul on beckford in the box there big centre half went straight through beckford flattening him, ref is 20 feet away looking right at it he waves play on, unfucking believable cheating twat

Not worrying after last night. If we didn't play well then at least we seem to have the resilience to staty unbeaten. If we can carry that on for as long as possible, the confidence will be sky high and the results will keep on coming.
If charlton and hudds win then so be it, as long as we're going well we'll go up.

The ref was okay imo. Yes, we could have got a penalty for that climb on Beckford and I was waving my arms about at the time, but it would have been a bit soft.
And apart from that one at the end when their bald centre half (who I like, Adam Barrett he's called) went tumbling over under pressure from Grella and touched the ball with his hand which for some reason the ref gave them a foul, I thought he looked after the game pretty well. Far from the worst ref I've ever seen.
We started well... passing it, created a few chances from wide, though on a couple of occasions our final ball didn't get through. Then we had a couple of decent chances from corners that spooned over - hard to tell from our end how good the chances were but I felt we could have popped one of them in.
They then came into it. Decent front line they've got too. That Laurent chap who ran rings round us last year is a tricky bugger who we dealt with pretty well all told. Bromby and Kis are two calm centre backs who seem unruffled by most things and communicate clearly and loudly. You could hear them shouting across the line at the back four. Both seem more obviously stand-in captains than Jonny H to me, not that there's anything wrong with Howson.
Then they had a great chance just before HT - Higgs and Kis miscommunicate for once and the ball drops to their little black winger who volleys over from inside the 6 yard box. Cue jeering and more chanting of "your crowd is sh*t, your drummer's a c*unt" and "you can stick your f*cking drumsticks up your arse" to the Southend fans.
Second half we weren't great. Neither were they mind... but the game disintegrated into a midfield battle off. Neither team giving much away. Just as the game was dying on its arse they get the penalty. Probably a fair decision but a bit soft and hard to swallow in a tight game. Still a cracking save as I'm sure you've all seen by now - this guy is such a step up from Casper. Cue singing of "England's number one" for which we get a thumbs up and round of applause from Beckford (surely we're not beginning to bond are we???)
Speaking of the man himself... we could have won it. But in classic Beckford style he missed the easier chance... He'd have probably scored had it been overhead and from 15 yards. And then Grella had a glancing header which could have nicked it.
But actually, it would have been nicking it. A draw was a fair result and after the results on Saturday we'll look back on this as a point gained at a bloody difficult ground.
Some minor chuckles on the way out as various local stewards were singled out for chanting. A small steward whose only similarity to Tony Yeboah was his skin colour ( )got both barrells of the hava nagila "Tony, Tony Yeboah" song; another steward whose fat belly and bald head made him a spit of our little permanent sub got "Whoooo, Andy Andy, Andy Andy Andy Andy Robinson"; then a cute blonde girl steward with a hairband got "Luciano Becchio" shouted in her face... much to her confusion.
